| Overview Women
are twice as likely as men to be diagnosed with depression; hormonal factors and
the responsibilities at work and home are cited as reasons for the disparity.
However, even though 3 to 4 million men in the United States are affected by the
illness, they are less likely to admit to the disease and healthcare professionals
are less likely to suspect it. The same is true for other patient groups, including
African American and Latino populations. In this interview, Valerie Hart, EdD,
APRN, CS and Nancy Balkon, ANP-BC, PhD will discuss how atypical patients might
manifest signs and symptoms of depression and how healthcare professionals can
recognize this debilitating disease in all patients. | |
